Three PA cities score 100% on Equality Index; but what about the rest?

Today, Equality Pennsylvania officials joined our partners at the Human Rights Campaign, City of Pittsburgh LGBTQIA+ Advisory Council, Mayor Bill Peduto, and Pennsylvania Physician General and Acting Secretary of Health Rachel Levine at the City-County Building in Downtown Pittsburgh as the Steel City celebrated receiving a HRC Municipal Equality Index (MEI) score of 100% for the first time.  The Municipal Equality Index (MEI) examines how inclusive municipal laws, policies, and services are of LGBTQ people who live and work there. Cities are rated based on non-discrimination laws, the municipality as an employer, municipal services, law enforcement and the city leadership’s public position on equality. Continue reading.

Harrisburg lawmakers are once again playing politics with our rights — and now they’ve targeted transgender youth. They have attached an amendment to the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) reauthorization bill that would deny access to trans-related services to those covered under CHIP – which covers PA’s most vulnerable youth up to age 19.
