Equality PA Endorsed Candidates Win Big

Harrisburg – Equality PA congratulates the endorsed candidates who won their important elections yesterday:

– Christine Donohue – Supreme Court
– Kevin Dougherty – Supreme Court
– David Wecht – Supreme Court

– Dan Clifford – Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas
– Alice Beck Dubow – Superior Court
– Abbe Fletman – Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas
– Chris Mallios – Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas
– Hugh McGough – Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas
– Mia Roberts Perez – Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas
– Michael Wojcik – Commonwealth Court

– Bruce Hanes – Register of Wills, Montgomery County

Ted Martin, Executive Director of Equality PA, stated, “We will continue to work to educate and activate voters to vote for candidates who support LGBT equality and to vote against candidates who have a record of LGBT intolerance, like Supreme Court candidate, Michael George. Our work over the last few weeks clearly made a difference and we look forward to continuing to elect candidates who support the LGBT community in 2016.”

Voters were clear yesterday on LGBT priorities. Yesterday, voters also made the office of LGBT affairs permanent in Philadelphia and rejected anti-LGBT Supreme Court candidate Michael George.

In the weeks leading up to the election, Equality PA volunteers generated more than 50,000 phone calls to educate voters about what was at stake in this election, including Michael George’s record of using the “gay panic” defense in a murder trial.

Equality PA intends to work with the newly elected judges and representatives in government to defend victories for LGBT equality and to fight discrimination in the workplace, housing, and business and government services.
