Opponents Use Scare Tactics to Derail Support of HB/SB300

Our opponents are at it again, spreading lies and using scare tactics to derail support for HB/SB300, the bill to protect LGBT people from discrimination at work and in our communities.

Just this week, two op-eds appeared in the Philadelphia Inquirer attacking legislation that’s supported by an overwhelming majority of Pennsylvanians. One author argues that HB/SB300 should include dangerous religious exemptions that allow people to pick and choose which laws they want to follow. The other author uses scare tactics to attack the bill’s protection for transgender people, who we know experience discrimination at alarming rates.

Hidden behind both arguments is the same truth: our opponents believe that LGBT people are immoral and do not deserve equal protection under the law.

Discrimination against LGBT people is pervasive in our state. Transgender folks are being fired from their jobs; gay couples are being evicted; queer students are being pushed to the margins. It’s critical that HB/SB300 is signed into law to ensure that all Pennsylvanians are free from this harmful discrimination.

But our opponents are going to do everything they can to stop us from advancing this bill. They’ll stop at nothing to kill HB/SB300 — and we have to make sure their lies and scare tactics don’t erode the support we’ve built in the community and with our legislators.

Help us fight back against these attacks. Can you pitch in $15 right now so we can tell the truth about our community and about HB/SB300?

We must respond to these attacks and make sure our lawmakers and our neighbors understand why HB/SB300 matters.
