We should not have to find somewhere else for our dreams

Just in case you didn’t hear already, a wedding venue near Scranton called the Inne At Abingtons sent an email to a lesbian couple this week telling them that, “Unfortunately, we do not hold same sex marriages at our facility. I truly do hope you find somewhere that will fulfill all your wedding dreams.”[1]

As Scranton residents, my fiance and I are especially disheartened that this happened in our own backyard.  In our current search for wedding venues in Northeast Pennsylvania, it is scary to think that the same thing can happen to us, just because we are a same sex couple.  Although we know that this kind of discrimination is legal in our state, it continues to be a disappointment when we learn that another couple has been denied their rights on the basis of sexual orientation.

It’s time to end discrimination in Pennsylvania once and for all.

Will you donate $50 to Equality PA today to help us do the important work we need to do around the state to end legal discrimination?

It’s past time that we update our laws in Pennsylvania to be sure that lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people cannot be discriminated against in this way.

As the president of the board of Equality PA, it is my priority to be sure that we pass SB 300 and HB 300, PA’s nondiscrimination bills, as soon as possible, and we need your help to do that. Because, even though polls show nearly 70% of Pennsylvania voters agree that LGBT people should not be discriminated against at work, in housing, or at businesses, the state legislators still need more convincing.

That’s why we are working across the state to give our supporters the tools that they need to call legislators, write letters, meet them in person, and let them know that the people of Pennsylvania want to make sure that all people are treated fairly and equally, including LGBT people.

Your donation will help us to keep that important work going and make sure that no more couples have to encounter discrimination while they are planning what should be one of the happiest days of their lives.

Thanks for all you do,
