Same-sex couples want to marry for reasons familiar to all couples – for love, commitment, shared responsibility, and family. And now thanks to a decision by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court followed by a decision by the US Supreme Court, all loving couples have the the freedom to marry in the United States.
For years, Equality Pennsylvania has been working to build support for marriage equality – so that same-sex couples are given access to the full dignity, respect, and protections accorded to other couples.
We’ve fought against many attempts to amend our State Constitution to ban marriage for gay couples – and each time, we’ve won and kept the state from writing discrimination into our founding document.
We’ve advocated and successfully secured support for marriage equality from U.S. Senator Bob Casey and seven mayors from across the state.
In the coming months and years, Equality Pennsylvania will continue to be the leading organization advocating for the other important ways that we protect families such as ending discrimination against LGBT people at work, in housing, in health care, and in business and government services. Pennsylvanians are ready for a conversation about why equality and equity for LGBT people, and we’re committed to engaging in the discussion and charting a course toward full equality.
