Equality Pennsylvania seeks students with a desire to learn more about equality issues and public policy to work as interns throughout Pennsylvania (including Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Philadelphia, Wilkes-Barre, and virtually). Our interns have many opportunities to observe and participate in substantive work and work directly on legislative priorities for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) Pennsylvanians across the Commonwealth.

Equality Pennsylvania works to secure and protect the rights of LGBT Pennsylvanians by promoting and leading legislative initiatives on the state, county and municipal levels. Our professional staff, lobbyists, and legislative team work with our allies in the General Assembly to shape and pass positive legislation in Harrisburg and to beat back discriminatory legislation.

Equality Pennsylvania has led the fight for equal protection for LGBT citizens in PA, and collaborates with organizations, both local and statewide, across the state.

Equality Pennsylvania works to fight discrimination against LGBT Pennsylvanians through outreach, education, research, community organizing, training and coalition building.

Intern Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Prospect, Constituent, and Opposition Research
  • Attending workshops and meetings
  • Communicating with local constituents
  • Local, Regional, and Statewide Organizing
  • Administrative tasks including helping to schedule meetings, assisting with data entry and other duties as needed.

Qualifications: Applicants should be undergraduate or graduate students with a passion for equality issues. Knowledge of the state or federal legislative process is a plus, but is not required. We are looking for people interested in conducting research, generating grassroots activism and helping to advance our legislative priorities.  Position requirements include the ability to work independently and in collaboration, excellent communication skills, willingness to interact with supporters and activists on the phone and in person, and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.

All internships are unpaid.  Requests for expense reimbursement should be discussed prior to internship initiation.
